how to transform a vacant business-park into a lively urban environment
For our Europan 11 entry for the district Amstel III, we propose a gradual but radical reorganization of the spatial structure of the area into a new urban framework, in order to provide long term investment conditions. These investments should lead to a new kind of mixed-use business park that grows organically developing small scale cooperative housing, retail, manufacturing and working spaces. house like village completed
With the transformation of an old harbour-cantina to an apartment in Amsterdam, the clients wanted to realise a house that supported their dynamic lifestyle.
The house is built up out of smaller ‘houses’, which are placed in such way that you can fully enjoy the view of the adjacent harbour. The whole house is lit by natural daylight and several small streets and squares with sereval uses emerge within.
The top of the volumes create a second level, connected with walkingbridges. The whole loft-space is used, but retaines its open character. The walls consists of closets and give shape to the structure as well as the storage.
The volumes also work as climate compartments and limit the energy-use. In the future the used surface can be enlarged by buiding extra ‘houses’ in the space now left open.
